Audi kickstarts its electric era in Malaysia in a massive way by unveiling seven variants of e-tron electric vehicles from three different models including the e-tron GT, Q8 e-tron, and Q8 e-tron Sportback. The launch also marked the debut of energy solution provider Moon Power in Malaysia which is the company’s first market outside of Europe.
Given that one of Moon Power’s core businesses is Charge Point Operator (CPO), its presence at the event is definitely not a mere coincidence. Furthermore, the local Audi distributor, PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) and the European CPO are under the same parent company which is Porsche Holdings Salzburg.
For starters, the company has set up chargers at the existing Audi Centres in Glenmarie, Setia Alam, and Juru for the benefit of the new owners of the e-tron EVs which will be delivered to them in the coming weeks. Each of these centres has been fitted with three 22kW AC chargers and one 180kW DC charger that are available exclusively to e-tron owners.
Later this September, Audi customers will be provided with the option to purchase a Moon Power wallbox. They can choose to have it with a power output level of 11kW or 22kW although PHSAM did not reveal either the pricing nor the make of the charger (the event’s display unit was made by ABB) during the launch event.
While the company is considering establishing a public charging network over here but nothing has been set in stone just yet. For the Malaysian launch of e-tron EVs, PHSAM has cooperated with local CPO, EV Connection to provide RM1,000 worth of credits that customers can utilise at JomCharge chargers nationwide.
