One of the common concerns among potential electric vehicle (EV) owners is having to endure a sudden increase in their monthly electric bill after installing a home charger for their EV. On top of that, the government is also planning to increase the current electricity tariff for domestic users categorised under the T20 income group. Well, this new offer from Millennium Welt and Quill Automobiles for the BMW iX electric SUV series might help address these concerns.
Thanks to a new partnership with Solaroo Systems, customers who purchase a BMW iX from Millennium Welt or Quill Automobiles dealerships will receive a complimentary 4.4kWp rooftop solar PV system for their homes. Available only for a limited time, the system is worth over RM20,000 and can be upgraded (for a fee) shall the need arise.
With a rebate of up to RM1,500 on the installation fee, customers will also be provided with two years of free maintenance and insurance coverage that includes one-for-one part replacements as part of its provisions. Components within the solar PV system have their own warranty too, according to Solaroo:
- PV module performance: 25 years
- Solar panels and inverters: 12 years
- Mounting structure: 10 years
- Data transfer unit: 2 years
In addition to that, customers will also be provided with a free BMW 22kW AC wall box charger which is more than enough since BMW iX’s built-in AC charger only supports up to 11kW. To sweeten up the deal, there is also overtrade support of RM15,000.
Based on the table above, Solaroo’s 4.4kWp solar PV system can generate an average 458kWh of electricity per month. In general, that is roughly equivalent to four full charge cycles of the iX xDrive50 variant which is equipped with a 105kWh battery.
For the iX xDrive40 which has a much smaller 75kWh battery, the amount of full charge cycles that one can theoretically obtain from the solar PV system is much higher at six cycles. Do note that these figures are just estimates and the amount of energy that one can obtain from the solar PV system varies from one implementation to another. Besides reducing the cost of day-to-day charging, solar implementation is considered more sustainable as it reduces your home’s dependency on the grid which is still mostly powered by fossil fuels.
With the ability to deliver a power output of 240kW (326hp) and 630Nm of torque, the iX xDrive40 was launched in Malaysia back in 2021 offering a travel range of 372km to 425km according to the WLTP standard. The more powerful xDrive50 variant made its way into our market earlier this year and had 385kW (523hp) output alongside 765Nm of torque and 630km maximum range.
When it comes to pricing, the BMW iX xDrive 40 starts at RM385,430 while the iX xDrive40 Sport can be obtained from RM429,430 onwards. As for the BMW iX xDrive 50 Sport, it starts at RM528,430.
Once the Extended Warranty & Service Package is added into the picture, the price of the electric SUV would then increase to RM403,800, RM447,800, and RM546,800 respectively.
