Launched in our market last year, the Mercedes EQS 500 4MATIC and EQE 350+ are currently the highest-end models within the all-electric Mercedes-EQ family in Malaysia. However, they will soon be surpassed by an even more powerful version of themselves in the form of Mercedes-AMG EQS and EQE.
Both of these models will be officially launched in early June which is just in time for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur 2023. While the existing EQS and EQE models in Malaysia may already come with some AMG elements, the Mercedes-AMG variants push things further with AMG-specific implementations including the drive system, suspension, brakes, and sound.
Mercedes-AMG EQS power output, battery, charging and range
While we still have no knowledge of the exact configurations for the Mercedes-AMG EQ models that Mercedes-Benz will bring into our market, there is only one EQS in the global line-up which is the EQS 53 4MATIC+.
Equipped with dual electric motors alongside an all-wheel drive setup, this particular model has a maximum output of 484kW (658hp) alongside 950Nm of torque. Through the AMG Dynamic Plus package, these figures can be increased even further to 560kW (761hp) and 1020Nm, respectively.
The optional package also increased the top speed of the high-performance luxury sedan to 250km/h instead of 220km/h. Not only that, it also allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds instead of 3.8 seconds as per the base EQS 53 4MATIC+.
As a comparison, the existing locally-assembled EQS 500 4MATIC has a maximum output of 330kW (449hp) alongside 828Nm of torque. With a top speed of 210km/h, it can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The usable amount of energy from the EQS 53 4MATIC+ battery is said to be 107.8kWh which is almost identical to the EQS 500 4MATIC. Given its high-performance nature though, the AMG-tuned version has a slightly lower WLTP distance range of between 526 to 580km as opposed to its Malaysian CKD counterpart which has a rated range of up to 696km.
The EQS 53 4MATIC+ comes standard with an onboard 11kW AC charger although customers can opt for the 22kW option if they wanted to. The EV also supports a DC fast charger of up to 200kW which allows it to obtain 300km of WLTP range in just 19 minutes.
Mercedes-AMG EQE power output, battery, charging and range
As for EQE which some consider as the baby EQS, there are two versions that have been given the AMG treatment which are the EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+. Once again, we still don’t know which version will make its way to Malaysia but regardless of the choice, the level of performance contained within both Mercedes-AMG EQEs is well ahead of the existing EQE 350+.
Unlike the EQE that we have in our market at the moment which has a single electric motor with a rear-wheel drive setup, both of these Mercedes-AMG EQE models come with an all-wheel drive configuration which is something that you are already able to tell from the 4MATIC label on their names.
While the EQE 350+ is able to deliver an output of 215kW (292hp) and 565Nm of torque, the EQE 53 4MATIC+ output is much high at a whopping 460kW (626hp) alongside a maximum torque of 950Nm. These figures can be increased to 505kW (687hp) and 1000Nm, respectively through the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.
In addition to that, the package also improved the EV’s century sprint time from 3.5 to 3.3 seconds while its top speed maxes out at 240km/h instead of 220km/h. On the other hand, the optional performance upgrade is not available for the EQE 43 4MATIC though.
Nevertheless, you still looking at an output of 350kW (476hp) alongside 858Nm of torque. With a top speed of 201km/h, the EQE 43 4MATIC takes around 4.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h.
When it comes to battery and charging capability, the Mercedes-AMG EQE models are generally the same as their non-AMG counterparts. The battery on both EQE versions has 90.6kW of usable energy and they have been equipped with an 11kW on-board AC charger although customers in certain markets can opt for the 22kW option.
As for fast charging, the EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+ can support DC chargers with a power rating of up to 170kW. Mercedes-Benz did not provide the estimated charging time for either of these models but has noted in its global announcement that they can obtain up to 180km of WLTP range with just 15 minutes of DC charging time.
We currently have no knowledge of their local pricing for the time being but if you need a point of reference, the locally-assembled EQS 500 4MATIC currently starts at RM648,888 while the fully-imported EQE 350+ has a starting price tag of RM419,888. So, expect the upcoming Mercedes-AMG EQS and EQE to cost much higher but since they are EVs, both AMG EVs are still eligible for the road tax exemption that will last until the end of 2025.
We also expect them to be CBU units too, so they would be exempted from import and excise duties as well. Do note that all the information we mentioned above is based on global specifications and the Malaysian configurations could be different, so make sure to stay tuned for our updates from the official Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launch event coming your way next month.
