This post is brought to you by Samsung.

Superimposing two shots into a single photo is known as multiple exposure photography. Old-school analogue cameras created this effect by exposing the film twice to create a superimposed photo. These days, you can superimpose images in a photo editor or using a DSLR camera.

But if you don’t want to lug around a bulky DSLR camera or spend time tinkering with photo editing softwares, you can capture multi exposure photos using your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do so.

Open the camera app, swipe left to get to the “More” page and choose the “Expert Raw” mode. On the camera options bar, click on the two intersecting squares and you’ll be presented with the “Multiple Exposure” pane.

For Shutter, you have two options. Continuous will capture the multiple shots in succession automatically while Manual will let you snap the multiple shots yourself. We are going to choose Manual. Under Overlay, we’ll choose Bright, which will exclude the bright parts of the first photo. Exposure sets the number of shots you want to superimpose, which in our case, will be two.

When shooting the first photo, you will need to make sure the subject has a clear contrast with the background. Since we were shooting outdoors, we used the bright sky and whitish tiles as the backdrop. But if you’re shooting indoors, you can use a white or bright-coloured wall. The more uniform the background colour, the better.

Before taking the first photo, ensure the subject is well exposed. You can brighten the subject by increasing the Exposure Value (EV) and or the shutter speed value. After snapping the photo, there will be a translucent image of the photo on the screen to help with the framing.

For the second photo, the object that you want to superimpose onto the subject has to be slightly darker. To darken the object, decrease the EV and or the shutter speed value. Once set, just snap the photo and voila! A multi exposure photo captured right on your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Now, there is no right or wrong way of capturing multi exposure photos, so be free to get creative and experiment with different settings. Besides the Galaxy S23 Ultra, you can use any Galaxy smartphone that supports the Expert Raw app for multi exposure photography, which you can install from the Galaxy Store.

Experience multi exposure photography on the Galaxy S23 Ultra and its siblings, the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 today at the nearest Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Authorized Dealers.

Samsung is also offering double the storage amount for the Galaxy S23 series on the house until 4th June 2023:
