At Computex 2023, Acer has announced a refreshed Swift Edge 16, packing their large-yet-lightweight laptop with newer processors, a higher refresh rate and better wireless connectivity too, with the Taiwanese giant positioning the new Swift Edge 16 as a laptop designed for dynamic professionals.
Right off the bat, the Swift Edge 16 retains its huge 16-inch, 16:10 OLED display, with Acer upgrading the refresh rate to a smoother 120Hz. Incidentally, it loses out on the 4K resolution found on its predecessor, but still pushes a very good 3200 x 2000p resolution. There’s also full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, a 0.2ms response time, along with a peak brightness of 500nits, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. The display is TUV Rheinland Eyesafe certified too for reduced blue light exposure.
Under the hood, Acer has packed the new Swift Edge 16 with the latest AMD Ryzen 7040 series processors which they claim offers performance and power efficiency that’ll keep it running longer unplugged. They come with up to Radeon 780M integrated graphics based on the RDNA 3 architecture, making it a solid lightweight gaming option even without discrete graphics. That gets mated to up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD storage, along with Ryzen AI features on select models where a dedicated AI engine allows for tools like real time video quality enhancements in video calls.
Other features of note include a built-in Microsoft Pluton security processor for added cybersecurity credentials, as well as a fingerprint sensor for Windows Hello biometric authentication. There’s a 1440p QHD webcam too with support for Windows Studio Effects and Acer’s Temporal Noise Reduction. As for I/O you get two USB-A ports, two USB-C Gen 4 ports, a HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a micro SD card reader, as well as support for WiFi 7 wireless connectivity. All of that gets packed into a magnesium alloy chassis that weighs just 1.23kg and meaasures just 12.96mm thick.
Unfortunately, Acer has not provided any updates on local pricing and availability just yet, but the Swift Edge 16 will be made available in North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa in July with a starting price of USD1,299.99 (~RM5,996.20).
