MEASAT Global Berhad (MEASAT) is providing free satellite broadband service for frontline Malaysian Armed Forces personnel serving at selected remote border checkpoints located across the country. The initiative is delivered via ConnectMe Now service as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
MEASAT’s Chief Operating Officer Yau Chyong Lim said, “As a proud Malaysian company committed to providing broadband coverage even in the most remote areas of the country, MEASAT recognises the dedication of our military personnel and is pleased to support the Malaysian Armed Forces teams in keeping our borders safe. Being away from loved ones for extended periods can sometimes feel challenging, so we would like to make it more convenient for our dedicated soldiers to stay connected with their families through our high-speed CONNECTme NOW platform.”
Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Forces and RMAF General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi Bin Buang said, “We welcome this contribution from MEASAT which is essential to the well-being of our military personnel throughout their posting in the remote border posts. The Malaysian Armed Forces also welcomed the efforts of the private sector of Malaysia contributing their specialised capabilities, especially in realising initiatives that honour the services and sacrifices of members of the security forces who are protecting the nation. I look forward to other potential collaborations in the future.”
According to MEASAT, its ConnectMe Now service currently provides 400,000 broadband connections within unconnected communities. With its High-Speed Satellite Broadband, MEASAT says it is a strategic partner to support the government’s aspiration to achieve 100% internet coverage in populated areas by 2025.
MEASAT launched its latest MEASAT-3d satellite in June last year which enables even faster satellite broadband service of up to 100Mbps via Ka-band. With an increased capacity of 30Gbps, MEASAT-3d is able to connect 2 million unserved Malaysian communities that don’t have access to 4G, 5G or fibre connectivity.
