Oppo Malaysia has announced the A98 5G, a new mid-range A-series device which seems to succeed the Oppo A96. Besides having a large 120Hz display, the Oppo A98 5G has a “microscope” microlens and it supports a faster 67W SuperVOOC fast charging technology.

The Oppo A98 5G with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage retails for RM1,399 in Malaysia and Oppo Malaysia is offering freebies worth up to RM377 if you pre-order the device between 15th to 18th May 2023 via My Oppo Space, Oppo Brand Stores and Online Stores. The freebies include an Oppo Band (for the first 25 customers who queue up), TWS Earbuds and 1+1 year warranty. The Oppo A98 5G will be available starting 19th May 2023 and comes in either Blue or Black.
Oppo A98 5G Malaysia Specs and Features
The Oppo A98 5G comes with a 6.72″ 120Hz Full HD+ (2400×1080) LTPS LCD display and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G platform. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage that’s expandable via microSD card.
For taking pictures, it gets a triple-camera setup which consists of a 64MP f/1.7 main camera, 2MP f/2.4 mono camera and a 2MP f/3.3 microlens with 40x zoom. For selfies, it comes with a 32MP f/24 front camera that sits in a tiny punch-hole.
Besides supporting 5G, the Oppo A98 5G supports 802.11ac WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and it still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Powering the device is a large 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W SuperVOOC fast charging via USB-C.
With Oppo’s Battery Health Engine feature, the A98 5G claims to offer double the battery’s life span where it can hold 80% of its original capacity for up to four years or more, equivalent to up to 1,600 charging cycles. The battery can be fully charged in just 44 minutes with 67W SuperVOOC while a quick 5-minute charge is claimed to deliver 6 hours of phone calls or 2.5 hours of YouTube video viewing. The Oppo A98 runs on Android 13 with ColorOS 13.1 skin on top.
