Canon PowerShot V10: Looks like police bodycam, is actually RM1,999 vlogging camera

Vlogging-focused cameras have been a thing for a number of years now, with notable cameras such as the Sony ZV-1 in this scene. Canon is now finally joining the competition with its own take on a vlogging-centric camera, the PowerShot V10.

At first glance, you might be mistaken for thinking it’s perhaps a bodycam used by police officers rather than a vlogging camera targeting the younger demographic. This is due to its unusual vertical body instead of your usual camera design. The vertical and compact design does mean it only measures 64.4 x 90.0 x 34.3mm though making it very easy to carry around in your pocket and then take out to shoot when needed.

There’s no interchangeable lens on the PowerShot V10. Instead, Canon have fitted their new camera with a fixed 19mm prime lens with a red record button right underneath it. On the back meanwhile is a 2-inch, LCD display that can be flipped over the camera to face the front along with some buttons for navigation and playback. There’s a HDMI Micro port, a 3.5mm mic jack, a USB-C port and an external card slot for storage. The PowerShot V10 also has a built-in kickstand with adjustable angles or if you prefer a tripod, there’s a socket for it too.

That 19mm prime lens sits over a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 20.9MP resolution. It’s capable of recording at 1080p at 60FPS or 4K footage at 30FPS. You should also know that the PowerShot V10 will only be taking photos at 15.2MP resolution and only in JPEG with no support for RAW though granted this is a camera built for vlogging first anyway. It also has an up to 3x digital zoom, with 14 Movie Colour filters, face tracking autofocus, one shot autofocus, and digital image stabilisation; there’s no optical image stabilisation on the PowerShot V10.

Other features of note include a 1,250mAh battery that Canon says should be able to last you over two hours of 4K playback, or 55 minutes of shooting 4K footage and charges via the USB-C port. As for audio the PowerShot V10 has built-in dual stereo microphones, along with WiFi and Bluetooth support for wireless connectivity with your smartphone.

The Canon PowerShot V10 will be coming to Malaysia sometime next month, and will be priced at RM1,999. It will be available in black or silver colourways.
