HTC has confirmed that it will unveil its new U series smartphone on Thursday, 18th of May 2023. To stand out from the crowd, the new smartphone is expected to be Metaverse-centric with its HTC Viverse platform.
Although the model name isn’t revealed yet, leaks seem to indicate that this could be the HTC U23 Pro. If the rumours are true, this won’t be a flagship device that would compete with the likes of the Galaxy S23. It is said to be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip and a quad-camera setup that features a 108MP main camera. Other purported details include a 120Hz AMOLED display and a modest 4,600mAh battery.
We are still not really sure how this device would work for the Viverse. It might be possible that HTC may introduce an optional VR headset similar to the Samsung Gear VR which, unfortunately, is virtually dead right now.
HTC was once a formidable brand when it comes to Android devices and its smartphone business disappeared into oblivion after the company switches its focus towards virtual reality with its HTC Vive lineup. The Taiwanese company tried to rejuvenate its smartphone lineup by releasing a cryptocurrency smartphone and it was rumoured since last year that it wants to launch a smartphone for the Metaverse. The last proper HTC flagship smartphone in Malaysia was the HTC U12+ which was released 5 years ago in 2018.
