If you’re subscribed to a YouTube Premium Family account, take note that Google has increased the monthly subscription fee by 26%. This is the first price hike since YouTube Premium was first introduced in Malaysia in 2019.
A YouTube Premium Family account which lets you share with up to 5 family members in your household now costs RM33.90/month. This is a RM7 increase from RM26.90/month and equates to RM5.65/month per member. Existing users should be receiving an email notification from YouTube on the price change and when it will take effect.
However, the YouTube Premium individual and student rates in Malaysia remain unchanged at RM17.90/month and RM10.90/month respectively.
Besides allowing you to watch YouTube videos without advertisements, the YouTube Premium subscription allows users to download videos for offline viewing as well as the ability to play videos in the background while you’re using other apps. The Premium subscription also gives you access to ad-free YouTube Music and you also can enjoy offline downloads as well as background playback. The same ad-free and offline playback is also applicable for YouTube Kids. If you’re a new subscriber, you can try YouTube Premium for free for the first month.
To prevent any leakages in ad revenue, YouTube has started blocking access to users watching YouTube with ad blockers enabled. Users who do so will be greeted with a message, “Ad blocks are not allowed on YouTube” followed by a link to try YouTube Premium.
