Samsung Galaxy A24: The longest software support on a smartphone below RM1,000

Samsung is perhaps the best in the Android scene when it comes to software support. They were the first to introduce a minimum guarantee of four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches on their flagship smartphones, and by the time the competition followed suit they would bring that long software support to their budget-focused Galaxy A devices too. The Korean giant has now introduced the Galaxy A24 to Malaysia, which despite its sub-RM1,000 price tag will get the same software support guarantee Samsung gives its Galaxy S23 lineup.

Samsung Galaxy A24 Malaysia pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy A24 is already available with a recommended price tag of just RM999 from the Samsung Malaysia website as well as their authorised retailers nationwide. If you purchase their new midrange smartphone this month, you’ll also get a year of extended warranty worth RM99 and a complementary clear case worth RM79.

Samsung Galaxy A24 specs

The Samsung Galaxy A24 features a decently sized 6.5-inch, FHD+ Super AMOLED display, with an Infinity-U teardrop notch up top. This screen is also capable of a peak brightness of 1,000nits along with a 90Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while expandable storage of up to 1TB is also an option. It’s also worth noting that this is a 4G-only device.

Perhaps the best feature of the Samsung Galaxy A24 though isn’t its hardware, but rather its software support. It comes with Android 13 out of the box already with One UI 5.1 skinned over it. Samsung is guaranteeing four Android OS upgrades and five years of security support with the Galaxy A24, meaning that you could ostensibly use it till Android 17 rolls out, and then use it for an additional year after that with the knowledge that you’re still getting vital security updates. This puts the Galaxy A24—a sub-RM1,000 device—on par with the Galaxy S23 Ultra in terms of software support.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy A24 has a triple rear camera on the back, with a main 50MP, f/1.8 camera with optical image stabilisation flanked by a 5MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens as well as a 13MP, f/2.2 front camera. There’s a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging keeping the lights on, however just like their Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy A24 will not come with a charging brick in the box. The Galaxy A24 will be available in Dark Red, Light Green and Black colourways.
