Sunway Group (Sunway) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari) and EV Connection Sdn Bhd (EVC) to build and install EV charging stations at Sunway-owned premises, commercial buildings and facilities throughout Malaysia. The partnership will provide owners of electric vehicles wider access to EV chargers at Sunway Group’s residential and commercial properties.

Under this collaboration, Gentari, will be a co-development partner for EV charging stations at Sunway’s integrated townships and developments throughout the country. EVC will work closely with Sunway to identify strategic locations for the installation of these EV charging stations at Sunway’s townships and developments to address concerns of range anxiety.

With more EVs hitting the roads, the partnership between Sunway, Gentari and EVC is a step towards the government’s goal of being a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. Malaysia aims to have EVs and hybrid vehicles account for at least 15% of total industry volume by 2030 under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2023. The government aims to have 10,000 EV charging stations nationwide by 2025.

Commenting on the partnership, Sunway Group Founder and Chairman, Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said, “Electric vehicles are increasingly the preferred option among Malaysians. The growing number of EVs will require a robust network of charging stations throughout the country. This partnership is a concrete step towards that goal. At Sunway, we firmly believe that we can all do well by doing good.”

Gentari’s Chief Green Mobility Officer Shah Yang Razalli said “This MoU with Sunway and our partner EV Connection, is another testament of Gentari’s continued effort to drive green mobility adoption. Sunway’s position as a major developer of both commercial and residential properties across Malaysia, enables Gentari to allow EV infrastructure access to more users across residential, workplace and recreation destinations.”

Meanwhile, EVC’s Managing Director Ir Lee Yuen How said “This tri-partied partnership is a collective effort to bring together property owners and charge point
operators towards a common goal of driving electric mobility revolution in the region. I am extremely honoured to be part of this and hope that it will set precedent towards more collaborations to come and building a cleaner and sustainable future.”
