Setel Lite: A lightweight petrol payment app designed for old phones and slow connectivity

Setel, the petrol payment app from Petronas, has introduced Setel Lite. This is essentially a lightweight version of Setel which is designed to work with older and lower-spec Android smartphones running on Android 4.4 and EMUI 3. Besides being smaller in file size, Setel Lite is also optimised for phones with slower connections such as 2G or EDGE.

Being a no-frills app, Setel Lite is focused purely on petrol purchases and it doesn’t offer extra Setel services such as parking, EV charging, insurance renewals or roadside assistance. You can’t even use it as an eWallet to pay at DuitNow QR merchants. Unlike the full-fledged Setel app, it won’t show a map on the home screen but it will highlight the nearest station and a link to navigate using Google Maps or Waze.

Designed for elderly users, the app can support larger fonts and buttons for greater accessibility. When it comes to payment, Setel Lite currently only supports online banking reloads and there’s no option to add a debit or credit card. However, you do get to earn Mesra Points up to 3x for every fuel purchase. After a fuel purchase is completed, you can also view the receipt in digital format.

According to Setel, you can log in to both Setel Lite and Setel using the same account. However, you’ll be logged out from Setel in order to use Setel Lite, and vice versa.

You can download Setel Lite on the Google Play Store and it will be coming soon on the Huawei AppGallery. For more info, you can visit the Setel Lite website.
