Some have speculated that this may have been an EV-related fire incident but from the looks of it, the fire occurred from the rows of petrol-powered motorcycles before the flames engulfed the rest of the row of vehicles including Beam’s eScooter.

Beam Mobility Malaysia General Manager Justin Tiew has responded to the matter on Linkedin clarifying that the fire at KLCC was not caused by their electric scooters. He iterated that all Beam eScooters undergo stringent international fire safety tests before being put on the streets and they are also UL2272 certified, which is an international fire safety certification of the highest level for personal mobility devices. On top of that, he said their eScooters also undergo regular maintenance to ensure that each vehicle they put on the street is safe and fit for use.

Beam has recently invested in Malaysia with a 8,000 sq ft central warehouse in Selangor which serves not just as a distribution hub but also as a facility to conduct repairs and hardware testing for their electric scooters. The new warehouse services an average of 30 Beam eScooters daily to ensure that their fleet remains in good condition and is safe to use.

Justin also said that he was relieved that no passers-by were harmed or injured from the incident and expressed sympathies to the owners of the damaged vehicles. He thanked the authorities for their swift action in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading and causing further damage.
