Nothing Ear (2) key features
The Nothing Ear (2) looks similar to the first-generation Ear (1) which was initially launched with a retail price tag of RM499. For this new second-generation model, Nothing has made improvements in audio clarity, wireless stability and build quality. While the Ear (2) retains a transparent polycarbonate case, it is thinner and boxier with less rounded corners.
Meanwhile, the bottom has a matte white plastic piece that protrudes out from the bottom which helps to minimise visible scratches on the bottom plastic cover. Nothing says they have implemented a triple-shot injection process for the Ear (2) manufacturing which provides a more premium feel and improved IP54-rated dust and splash resistance. As a comparison, the Ear (1) had an IPX4 rating.
The new wireless earbuds with 11.6mm dynamic drivers are now Hi-Res Audio certified as it now supports Low Latency High Definition Audio Codec (LHDC 5.0). Users are also able to set their sound profile with a fully customisable equaliser settings, while active noise cancellation (ANC) is said to be improved with adaptive ANC up to 40dB. For better pick up from an array of three mics, the Ear (2) also features an improved Clear Noise Technology which provides better voice clarity in windy situations.
On top of that, Nothing also claims to offer better Bluetooth stability and they have tested the Ear (2) extensively with 120 different devices rather than just 70 during the development of Ear (1). The new wireless earbuds also support Bluetooth 5.3 and Dual Connection, which allows you to pair to two devices at the same time. For seamless pairing, it also has Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair.
On a single charge, the Ear (2) buds are rated to last 6.3 hours of music playback with ANC off or 4 hours with ANC turned on. With the charging case, you can get up to 36 hours of music playback without ANC and up to 22.5 hours with ANC on. The device supports wired USB-C as well as Qi wireless charging. A quick 10-minute charge on the cable is said to be enough to provide 8 hours of playback without ANC.
If you’re looking for other alternative wireless earbuds with ANC, the Sony LinkBuds S are heavily discounted at the moment. You can easily find a pair going for RM549 or less.
