Redmi Note 12 series Malaysia: Everything you need to know

It was only late last month that Xiaomi finally announced that the Redmi Note 12 series was heading to the global stage, and if you’re keen on one of these bang-for-buck midrange smartphones, you won’t have to wait any longer. Xiaomi Malaysia has now launched the Redmi Note 12 series in Malaysia, with three models to cater for different budgets.

Redmi Note 12 series Malaysia pricing and availability

The Redmi Note 12 lineup will be available for pre-order in Malaysia starting on 6 April till 13 April, with full availability beginning on 14 April. Here’s how much they’ll cost:

  • Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,599
  • Redmi Note 12 5G, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,099
  • Redmi Note 12, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM799
  • Redmi Note 12, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM699

Do note though that the Redmi Note 12 6GB+128GB will only be available via their official store on Lazada and Shopee, with the rest available both on their eCommerce stores as well as retail partners nationwide. If you get any of the Redmi Note 12 series devices during the pre-order period, you’ll be able to snag yourself a free Redmi Smart Band 2. That eCommerce exclusive Redmi Note 12 will also be priced cheaper during this time, going for just RM659. After the 14th of April meanwhile, all Redmi Note 12 series early bird buyers will be able to get a free Redmi Buds 4 Lite instead while stocks last.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G specs

Starting with the most expensive of the lineup, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G features a 6.67-inch, FHD+ ‘Flow AMOLED’ display, which Xiaomi says will offer slimmer bezels for a more immersive experience. The screen is also capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, with full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, support for Dolby Vision and a peak brightness of 900nits. You’ll also find a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 over it for scratch resistance.

Under the hood meanwhile the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G packs a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor, which happens to be the same one found on its rival in this price category, the similarly priced Samsung Galaxy A34. That gets mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. You’ll also find MIUI 14 out of the box, though this is based on Android 12 rather than the newer Android 13.

It’s in the camera department though where the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G shines, with a 200MP, f/1.65 main camera using a 1/1.4-inch sensor. According to Xiaomi, it’ll deliver class-leading photography with up to 159% improvement in low light capture. There’s also now optical image stabilisation, a first for a Redmi Note device. Complementing the main camera is an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera alongside a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. You’ll also find a 16MP, f/2.45 front-facing camera for your selfie needs.

Elsewhere, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has a 5,000mAh battery with 120W HyperCharge fast charging that can charge it up to 100% in just 19 minutes. There’s also stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm audio jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster and an IP53 dust and water resistance rating. It’s supports 5G, WiFi 6, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity too. It measures 8.98mm thick and weighs 210.5g, and will be available in Midnight Black, Polar White and Sky Blue.

Redmi Note 12 5G specs

As for its middle child, the Redmi Note 12 5G features a similarly sized 6.67-inch, FHD+ display too but uses a more standard AMOLED panel instead of their ‘Flow AMOLED’ one. It will however still be capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, with full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and a peak brightness of 1200nits. There’s a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it too for scratch resistance, together with an IP53 dust and scratch resistance rating.

Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 system-on-chip, which is a relatively new processor that only debuted in late last year; the Redmi Note 12 5G is the first smartphone in Malaysia with this processor. This gets mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with expandable storage of up to 1TB also possible. The Redmi Note 12 5G though comes with Android 12 out of the box, albeit with MIUI 14 skinned over it.

As for its cameras, you’ll find a triple rear camera setup on the Redmi Note 12 5G with a main 48MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. There’s a 13MP, f/2.45 front facing camera too. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. You’ll also find a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster and support for 5G, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC connectivity. It measures 7.98mm thick, weighs 189g and is available in Onyx Grey, Forest Green and Ice Blue.

Redmi Note 12 4G specs

Lastly, we have the Redmi Note 12 4G, which at first glance looks pretty similar to its 5G-capable counterpart. For instance, it has the same 6.67-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and a peak brightness of 1200nits. There’s again a layer Corning Gorilla Glass 3 here along with an IP53 dust and scratch resistance rating.

Under the hood of the Redmi Note 12 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 system-on-chip, mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Expandable storage of up to 1TB is also an option here. Curiously, despite it being the runt of the litter, the Redmi Note 12 actually comes with Android 13 out of the box, skinned with MIUI 14 over it.

On the back of the Redmi Note 12, you’ll find a triple rear camera setup using a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. Up front meanwhile there’s a 13MP, f/2.45 selfie shooter. The Redmi Note 12 is also powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, and you’ll find a 3.5mm audio jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and an IR blaster too. It has support for Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and WiFi 5 wireless connectivity. Weighing in at 183.5g and measuring 7.85mm thick, the Redmi Note 12 will be available in Onyx Grey, Mint Green and Ice Blue.
