The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is probably the most popular flip phone at the moment but the 1.9″ Super AMOLED cover display looks tiny compared to newer contenders like the Oppo Find N2 Flip and the upcoming Vivo X Flip. If you’re looking for the next big thing, it looks like Samsung is finally making a significant upgrade with an even larger screen on the Z Flip 5’s cover.
According to the folks at Sammobile, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get a bigger cover display between 3 to 4 inches and it gets a notched corner to house the main cameras. From the outline, as shown above, the cover display looks like a folder and the shape looks similar to the notch on the first gen Galaxy Fold’s inner display. With a larger display, the Z Flip 5 should provide better framing for selfies using the main camera and it is likely to allow users to perform more functions without unfolding the device.
What’s interesting is that the Z Flip 5 is said to have a waterdrop hinge which will enable the new flip phone to close shut without the noticeable thigh cap. As usual, you can expect Samsung to retain water resistance for the new Flip, which is something its rivals are still unable to offer for this segment.
It is consistent with my data, 3.4 ",close to the ratio of 1: 1, but I never expected such a design! pic.twitter.com/xU6W4omUWz

Serial Leakster Ice Universe seems to agree with the speculated cover display while claiming that the screen size will be 3.4 inches. As a comparison, the cover display on the Oppo Find N2 Flip is 3.26″.
Early this year, it was speculated that the new Motorola Razr 2023 may come with an even larger external display which stretches the entire cover while leaving several punch-holes for its dual camera and LED flash. So far there hasn’t been any confirmed indication of its launch but a new RAZR device was recently spotted on US FCC Certification database.
