Many of us love indulging ourselves in movies at the cinema. You get a large picture projected onto a huge screen accompanied by a big sound. But what if you want to watch that movie again down the road? You can’t exactly go to the cinema again and hope they are still screening that movie.
So, your next best option is to recreate a similar experience at home with a TV. However, not all TVs are created equally. With that in mind, here are a couple of features to look out for that add up to give you the finest TV experience.
Larger size provides more immersion
Like how a cinema provides you with an immersive experience thanks to a large screen, a TV can do the same if you choose the right size. A larger display will help to cover more of your viewing area. Therefore, you will tend to forget about all the distractions around you.
But since you will be sitting closer to a TV than a cinema screen, you don’t have to go crazy with the size. A TV with a screen size anywhere between 65 inches to 80 inches would do justice to the immersive experience.
4K provides a sharper image
A 4K resolution has a total of over 8 million pixels compared to over 2 million on a Full HD resolution. As a result, you get an overall clearer and sharper image when watching a 4K video. Moreover, plenty of content is available now in 4K with popular older titles being remastered to 4K.
Just a couple of years ago, 4K resolution was a feature only reserved for flagship models. In 2023, 4K resolution on TVs has gone mainstream. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a Full HD TV that cost significantly less than a 4K TV. So, there’s no reason why you should compromise on picture quality by going for a Full HD resolution.
Lighting system makes a huge difference
The content on your TV is brought to life by light and the source of that light makes a huge impact on the overall picture quality. Generally, there are two different lighting systems – LED and OLED.
Between these two, OLED displays have more advantages compared to LED displays. For one, an OLED display produces its own light and does not need a backlight like on a LED display. Therefore, an OLED TV is typically slimmer.
But more than that, each individual pixel on an OLED display has complete control over its lighting. This allows the pixel to completely turn off, producing black that’s deeper than on a LED display. This difference in contrast ratio allows for vivid colours and provides a more accurate reproduction of dark scenes in videos.
See what the director intended
TVs usually come with picture presets to fit the type of content you watch, like movies, TV shows or sports. Generally, these presets are very basic. So, the picture preset that you should look out for is called Filmmaker Mode.
Essentially, filmmakers, Hollywood studios, consumer electronics companies and the UHD Alliance have collaborated on calibrating this picture preset. In Filmmaker Mode, all post-processing is disabled, and the correct aspect ratios, colours and frame rates are set. The result is an image that displays what was intended by the filmmaker.
Besides that, some manufacturers offer picture settings for popular streaming services. Panasonic has a special preset for Netflix called Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode. In this setting, the TV will automatically adjust the settings to produce an optimised image for viewing your Netflix movies and TV shows.
HDMI 2.1 supports more features
HDMI 2.1 is the new standard for the HDMI interface and brings new features that benefit both moviegoers and gamers. With HDMI 2.1, you can channel lossless Dolby True HD with Dolby Atmos signal from your TV to your AV Receiver for a more detail-rich audio experience.
Gamers will be happy to know that HDMI 2.1 allows you to display games at 4K running up to a smooth 120Hz via supported PCs and gaming consoles. Variable refresh rate or VRR is another cool feature to have. With this feature, the TV will adaptively match the refresh rate of the game to provide a stable image.
What TV offers all these features?
If you’re wondering what TV offers all these features, a good example would be the Panasonic 4K Cinema TV series. Being Panasonic’s flagship line, it comes with OLED lighting technology for vivid colours and deep blacks.
Taking full advantage of the OLED display is the HCX Pro AI Processor which is designed with Panasonic’s years of visual technology development and expertise. The processor analyses each frame of the video and optimises the colour, contrast, and clarity to deliver the best possible image quality.
The Panasonic 4K Cinema TV series is available in 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch, and you can learn more about it over at Panasonic.com.my.
