Astro has signed a high-speed broadband (HSBB) access agreement with Celcom Timur (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CT Sabah) which will enable more residents in Sabah to sign up for Astro Fibre services. The partnership will enable Astro Fibre to cover a potential 118,000 homes in Sabah in Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Semporna, Kunak, Sandakan, Penampang, Lahad Datu, Beaufort, Keningau, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Kudat, Putatan, Ranau, Tenom and Tuaran.
By tapping on Celcom Timur’s fibre network, Astro will be able to provide standalone and bundled fibre broadband services in addition to Astro TV packages to more customers in Sabah without the need to build new infrastructure. It added that customers will still be able to benefit from high-performance internet connectivity and a comprehensive service via CT Sabah’s internet access solution.
The Fibre + TV provider currently offers rebates of up to RM39/month to customers who sign up for both broadband and entertainment bundle. According to Astro, they are currently offering 50Mbps fibre with TV packs from RM139.99/month which includes over 80 channels, extensive Video-On-Demand content and access to Astro Go as well as 200 hours of cloud storage.
Astro Fibre’s service through CT Sabah’s fibre network is expected to start in the second half of 2023. Astro wants to be a major fibre broadband provider and digital content aggregator in Malaysia. It currently has an access agreement with TM Wholesale to tap into TM’s HSBB network, bandwidth, backhaul and internet access. For more details, you can check out Astro Fibre’s website.
