WhatsApp for Windows now lets you have group video calls with up to 8 people

You’re probably already using WhatsApp on your smartphone, and many of you are also likely using it on your desktop, either via WhatsApp Web for browser or the dedicated WhatsApp desktop app. Well on top of adding new features for group chat admins, the largest instant messaging platform has also now introduced a new WhatsApp desktop app for Windows users that brings with it a number of quality-of-life adjustments.

As mentioned by WhatsApp and their parent company Meta as well, they’ve now rolled out a new WhatsApp app for Windows that they say has been revamped to load faster on your PC. It also introduces a sleeker looking interface that should be much more familiar to those of you already frequently using the mobile version of WhatsApp. WhatsApp says that they’ve made some improvements to make device linking and syncing across devices faster and better too.

Furthermore, the WhatsApp desktop app for Windows will now let you host group video calls too, with support for up to eight people in a video call at a time. If you need more people to hop onto the call from their computer, you’ll also be able to host group voice calls for up to 32 people. If that’s somehow still not enough, WhatsApp does say that they’ll be looking at increasing these limits over time—or you know, just set up a Google Meet call instead.

Unfortunately for Mac users, the new WhatsApp desktop app isn’t available for you just yet. They do mention however that they’re currently working on it, with the new WhatsApp desktop for Mac app currently in the early stages of beta. Android users meanwhile can already test out the a new WhatsApp for tablets app that’s already live in beta, which you can download here.
