In case you missed it, the MRT Putrajaya line has launched Phase 2, meaning that the 57.7km track from Kwasa Damansara down to Putrajaya Sentral is now complete. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had announced during the MRT Putrajaya line Phase 2 launch event that all commuters using the line will be able to ride it for free from today onwards till the 31st of March.

However, there are some things you might want to note before you head on down to the nearest MRT stop for a joy ride or to commute to work. For starters, the free ride program, dubbed Perjalanan Percuma 15 Hari MRT Laluan Putrajaya (PFR15), will only apply to those who either get in or get out at one of the 36 stations on the MRT Putrajaya line, as well as the line’s feeder buses.
So for example, if you enter at a MRT Putrajaya station and exit at say an LRT or BRT stop, the fare will be free of charge. Similarly, if you enter at any station and exit at one of the 36 MRT Putrajaya stops, the fare will also be free.
If you were to enter at a station not part of the MRT Putrajaya line and then exit at a station also not part of the MRT Putrajaya line—LRT Kelana Jaya, LRT Ampang, MRT Kajang, Monorail, BRT—you will need to pay the fare as usual. Prasarana is also warning those who do so without paying a fare that action will be taken against you if caught.
It should be noted though that there are seven interchange stations that are part of the MRT Putrajaya and at least one other line; your fare will also be free if you enter or exit at one of these seven stations:
- Kwasa Damansara
- Kampung Selamat
- Sungai Buloh
- Titiwangsa
- Tun Razak Exchange
- Chan Sow Lin
- Sungai Besi
Going back to the PFR15 promo, Prasarana explains that if you’re using the MRT Putrajaya line with a My50 pass, you can still enjoy the free ride. You will however need to make a new application for a My50 pass once it’s expired some time in April, after which they will provide you with a My50 pass that has an additional 15 days of use for a total of 45 days.
As for those of you who want to use the MRT Putrajaya line via a token, you’ll simply need to head over to any LRT, MRT, Monorail or BRT counter at the station and ask for a token for a free ride; this is again with the condition that you either enter or exit at one of the stops on the MRT Putrajaya line. You will not be able to get a PFR15 token at a token vending machine. Touch ‘n Go and concession card users on the other hand can just tap their cards as normal to get the free ride as long as either the entry or exit is at an MRT Putrajaya stop.
Also, you can’t use the free token to take one of the free feeder buses along the MRT Putrajaya line, though Touch ‘n Go users can do so with no charge as long as they tap in and tap out accordingly. There will be no free ride for any commuters using the regular Rapid KL and LRT feeder buses.
Once the clock strikes midnight on 1 April, the fares will be applied on commuters riding the MRT Putrajaya line once again. Riding the full line from one end to the other will set you back RM6.90 if you’re using a token, while those of you using cashless payments, the full line will cost you RM5.80 instead.
