Beam, the Singaporean company offering electric scooter sharing services in various locations in Malaysia, has announced that they will be opening a new Malaysian central warehouse in Subang Jaya, Selangor. This 8,000sqft central warehouse will support Beam’s growing presence in Malaysia, and services Beam’s operations throughout the state by allowing the company to ensure it has a steady supply of fully charged batteries and other necessary hardware on ground.

On top of that, Beam notes that this new warehouse will also double as its main distribution, repair and hardware testing hub in Malaysia as well as act as the primary hub for receiving overseas shipments and for sending out the necessary spare parts to other Beam warehouses throughout the country.

“This warehouse shows Beam’s commitment to continuous investments into Malaysia. It enables us to have an efficient supply chain for Beam’s services and continue creating job opportunities, especially in the gig economy.

We look forward to continuing the expansion of our operations and serving Malaysians with dependable, alternative transport modes,” – Justin Tiew, Beam Mobility Malaysia General Manager

Beam also adds that the new 8,000sqft central warehouse will service an average of 30 Beam electric scooters every day. This is to ensure that their fleet of electric scooters remains in good condition and is safe for users to travel on. Beam says that the regular maintenance of their electric scooters is necessary due to all the tech under the hood, such as an embedded GPS-tracking device that allows Beam to track each scooter’s location which lets them know where to pick it up when it needs servicing.

The company also claims that the new warehouse will benefit Malaysia’s gig economy by creating more opportunities for people to find jobs as Beam Rangers, the on-ground crew that roam around Klang Valley to collect, distribute and maintain Beam’s electric scooters. Beam says that these efforts are all part of their involvement in the eRezeki program under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) which aims to create more jobs in the sharing economy.

Their new central warehouse will be part of their commitment to environmental, social and governance efforts too. Beam claims that when they find parts that can no longer be used during the servicing of their electric scooters, they will work with their partners to have these parts safely and appropriately recycled to reduce wastage.
