Realme C55 will be coming to Malaysia with its own Dynamic Island called ‘Mini Capsule’

Earlier in the month, the Realme C55 debuted in Indonesia with a familiar feature they called Mini Capsule. Essentially, while the Realme C55 looks like it has a normal punch hole camera up front, it also comes with their own take on the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island. The company has now also confirmed that ‘Android’s first Mini Capsule’ will be coming to Malaysia.

Mini Capsule sees the system UI ‘expand’ the punch hole cutout horizontally to provide you with information such as your notifications, data usage, charging status, battery percentage and more. Realme also says there will be a ‘dynamic light’ animation on the Mini Capsule, and that they’ll be working to upgrade and add more features to Mini Capsule as time goes by.

Of course, we did kind of already know this, as the Realme C55 had already been spotted on the local SIRIM database. The device had already been approved back in last month, so we can expect Realme to launch its Mini Capsule contender very soon. There’s no word yet on pricing and availability of course, but in Indonesia the Realme C55 starts at IDR2,499,000 (~RM727.10), so realistically we can expect it to be priced below the RM1,000 mark.

While the Dynamic Island/Mini Capsule feature will likely be its unique selling point, the low price tag of the Realme C55 hints at its entry-level hardware. For starters, the Realme C55 has a 6.72-inch, FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, which unfortunately uses an IPS LCD display rather than an OLED panel. This means that the Realme C55 has a much more tame 680nits of peak brightness compared to rivals with AMOLED screens.

Under the hood, the Realme C55 that’s already launched in Indonesia features a MediaTek Helio G88 system-on-chip, mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It also has a microSD card slot for up to 1TB of expandable storage, with virtual RAM for an additional 8GB of RAM available too. The Realme C55 will come with Android 13 out of the box, with a skin of Realme UI 4.0 over it; no word on how many years of software support will be provided though.

The Realme C55 will also come with a deal camera setup on the back, with a 64MP main camera flanked by a 2MP portrait sensor. You’ll also find an 8MP front camera housed in the punch hole cutout that’s at the center of the Mini Capsule feature. There’s a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging too, along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm audio jack.
