Sony PS5 bundle on Unifi 800Mbps all-in-one plan appears to be a very bad deal

Telekom Malaysia (TM) is now offering the Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) for a monthly instalment of RM119/month on a 24-month contract of their highest all-in-one Unifi Broadband plan. However, getting a PS5 on an Unifi plan seems to be rather expensive and you end up paying more than the official retail pricing.

PS5 bundle only offered on the highest Unifi all-in-one plan

The smart device on offer is the PS5 Digital Edition with an additional DualSense controller and God of War Ragnarok game bundle which retails for RM2,688. Unifi is only offering this add-on device option if you take up the Unifi 800Mbps fibre broadband plan with Unifi TV and Unifi Mobile Postpaid 65 offer. In total, this entire bundle including the PS5 and subscription will cost you a hefty RM523/month.

As a reference, the 800Mbps Fibre Broadband plan costs RM299/month standalone and RM349/month with the Unifi TV add-on. Meanwhile, the 800Mbps Fibre Broadband with Unifi TV and Unifi Mobile costs RM404/month.

According to the FAQ, the PS5 will be delivered to you for free and is tied to a 24-month contract. For clarity, the PS5 is yours to keep after the 24-month contract period is over. If you’re keen on getting the PS5 on lower Unifi plans, you’re out of luck as it is exclusively offered for the 800Mbps all-in-one plan option.

Typically, a telco contract will provide substantial savings for a device bundle but this isn’t the case for this PS5 deal on Unifi. For RM119/month over 24 months, you will be paying RM2,856 in total for the PS5 which is RM168 higher than the retail RRP. This offer just doesn’t make sense as you’re paying more instead of getting savings for going on a contract. This is like paying for a “scalper” price while getting locked to a very expensive Unifi all-in-one bundle plan for two years.

Maxis offers the PS5 for as low as RM4/month

As a comparison, Maxis is also offering the PS5 Digital Edition with the God of War Ragnarok bundle which also comes with an additional controller. Unlike Unifi, the green telco allows you to add-on a PS5 on their Maxis Fibre 300Mbps, 500Mbps and 800Mbps broadband plans with the option of 24-month or 36-month Zerolution contract.

On the Maxis Fibre 300Mbps plan which costs RM149/month, the PS5 can be yours for RM108/month on a 24-month contract or RM70/month on a 36-month contract. If you need the highest speed available, the 800Mbps plan on Maxis costs RM299/month and you can get the PS5 for RM44/month on a 24-month contract or RM4/month on a 36-month contract.
