Galaxy A34 and A54: Here’s a clear look at Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphones

Samsung is expected to unveil its popular Galaxy A mid-range series very soon after it settles down with the global release of the Galaxy S23 flagship series. Ahead of its official launch, we now get a clear look at the new Samsung Galaxy A34 and A54 thanks to early leaks from Roland Quandt of WinFuture.De.

Samsung Galaxy A34

Taking a similar design approach as the new Galaxy S23 series, the new Galaxy A for 2023 no longer has a camera bump like the current Galaxy A33, A53 and A73. Instead, the individual cameras pop-out with its individual rings for a simpler appearance. Instead of a quad-camera setup, the new Galaxy A34 and A54 just come with a triple-camera array.

The cheaper Galaxy A34 is said to come with a 6.6″ 120Hz Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a tiny notch and it runs on a MediaTek MT6877V processor. The device is said to come with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM mated with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD. Similar to its predecessor, it still gets a 48MP main camera accompanied with secondary 8MP and 5MP cameras, presumably for ultra-wide-angle and macro. The Galaxy A34 still retains a large 5,000mAh battery as well as IP67-rated dust and water resistance.

Samsung Galaxy A54

Moving up a notch is the Galaxy A54 which has a smaller 6.4″ 120Hz Super AMOLED display with a punch-hole selfie camera. Instead of a MediaTek chip, the A54 is said to be running on Samsung’s own Exynos 1380 chip mated with 8GB of RAM along with 128GB or 256GB of storage which also supports microSD card expansion. The device also gets a triple-camera setup which consists of a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a third 5MP camera. For selfies, the Galaxy A54 is said to feature a high-resolution 32MP front shooter and it also retains a 5,000mAh battery as well as IP67-rated dust and water resistance.

For this year, Samsung appears to be skipping the higher Galaxy A74 model to replace the current Galaxy A73. The Galaxy A73 is seen as a tough sell as it was launched locally for over RM2,000. Instead, Samsung could be keeping its RM2,000-RM3,000 price range open for a Galaxy S23 FE device which offers flagship-class hardware at a lower price point.
