While restaurants are introducing Rahmah meals, Netflix Malaysia appears to be doing its part to help reduce the cost of living. Or perhaps it’s a move in preparation to crack down on freeloaders. Netflix has announced that it is dropping its Basic Plan monthly subscription fee by RM7 with immediate effect. That’s RM84 worth of savings for a full year.

Previously priced at RM35/month, the Netflix Basic Plan is now going for RM28/month and it is applicable to both new and existing Netflix subscribers. Despite the lower monthly subscription fee, the Basic Plan is still ad-free and you can enjoy higher quality HD 720p streaming which was upgraded in November 2022.

The Netflix Basic account can be streamed on a single device and it also supports offline downloads. You can use it to watch your movies and TV shows on your phone, tablet, computer and even on a Smart TV. The cheapest option is still the Mobile-only plan at RM17/month which lets you stream in 480p SD quality on your phone and tablet.
