The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is currently the most powerful Android flagship phone right now as it runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which is the fastest Snapdragon at the moment. If you’re planning to play games a lot, the Galaxy S23 series appears to have a bypass charging mode, a feature that’s often phone on hardcore gaming-centric devices such as the ROG Phone, Black Shark and Red Magic.
With bypass charging enabled, the phone will be powered directly from the phone’s adapter and it will not charge the battery. This would help to prevent the phone from overheating and it will also help to prolong the battery’s life span since the battery won’t be stressed during hardcore gaming.
On our Galaxy S23 Ultra review unit, we can find this option under Game Booster settings, while a game is running. As shown above, there’s a Pause USB Power Delivery toggle and it will work when a USB-PD charger is connected and the battery is over 20%. During our own test, this option is greyed out if the phone isn’t plugged it or not connected to a USB-PD charger.
It appears that the bypass feature only works when the game is active in the foreground. If we left the game running in the background, we could still see the battery percentage go up while the Pause USB Power Delivery option is enabled.
According to the folks at Sammobile, this bypass charging feature will be rolled out to other older Galaxy devices including last year’s Galaxy S22 series. It was reported that the feature has also appeared on other Galaxy lineups including the Galaxy A73 5G and the Galaxy Z Fold series.
