Yes 5G’s FT5G Prepaid plan has just gotten an update and it no longer offers unlimited hotspot usage on 5G. The hotspot quota for the prepaid plan is now merged into a single 4G/5G bucket with a combined 12GB of hotspot quota.
The subscription fee for Yes 5G’s FT5G Prepaid plan remains unchanged at RM30/month (RM25 if you enable autopay) and it still offers unlimited 5G data with no speed cap when used on the mobile device. It also offers unlimited 4G data that’s capped at 7Mbps with SD streaming. You also get unlimited calls to all networks and it still remains the most affordable 5G prepaid plan in Malaysia with unlimited data.
Previously, the plan came with a limited hotspot quota of 9GB for 4G usage, however, users were able to enjoy unlimited hotspot on 5G when connected to Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G network. During the launch back in December 2021, the unlimited 5G usage for the FT5G plan was offered as a limited-time promo until 31st March 2022 as part of DNB’s free access offer to all telcos and it was extended until further notice. At the time, free 5G data usage on FT5G prepaid came with unlimited and uncapped data speeds.
The change for its 4G/5G hotspot is also reflected in its FAQ. If you need to use more than 12GB for hotspot usage, you can purchase hotspot add-ons starting from 10GB for RM10 to 50GB for RM50.
The closest competitor for unlimited 5G data on prepaid is Unifi Mobile which costs RM35/month. Besides having a higher monthly subscription fee, the unlimited data on 4G comes with 100GB FUP, a 5Mbps speed cap while the hotspot data is capped at 10GB per month since December 2022. Starting 9th February 2023, TM’s Unifi Mobile 5G prepaid plan will get a lower 60GB FUP for both 4G and 5G data, while the hotspot quota is reduced to 5GB per month.
At the moment, DNB’s 5G network has 38% 5G population coverage that’s accessible by consumers. It aims to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by the end of 2024.
