Honor has confirmed that it will be launching at least two new flagship devices at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2023 scheduled at the end of this month. This includes the new Honor Magic 5 series and its foldable Honor Magic Vs.
Honor’s MWC 2023 event is happening on Monday, 27th February at 1:30pm in Barcelona (8:30pm Malaysian time). The event is expected to be streamed live on their social media platforms.
Based on the teaser image on their website, it appears that the Honor Magic 5 series will retain a large circular camera bump design similar to last year’s Magic 4 Pro which houses three cameras. The Honor Magic 4 Pro which ran on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip was the brand’s first flagship smartphone in years for the global market and it comes with Google Mobile Services.
We don’t have confirmed details of the Honor Magic 5 series but we reckon that the Magic 5 Pro version would be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with a 120Hz OLED display. Last year’s Magic 4 Pro was launched in Malaysia for RM3,999 and we reckon that the Magic 5 Pro is likely to be priced above the RM4,000 mark when it goes on sale locally.
The second smartphone that Honor is launching at MWC 2023 is the Magic Vs, a foldable device to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Magic Vs which succeeds the previous Magic V was launched in China in November 2022 and we had a hands-on with the new foldable phone.
The biggest highlight of the Magic Vs is its reduced thickness at just 12.9mm when folded (Z Fold 4L 15.8mm) and it weighs 261g, which is slightly lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 263g. The device features a 6.45″ Full HD+ OLED panel on the cover and a foldable 7.9″ 2272×1984 pixels resolution inner OLED display on the inside. The Honor Magic Vs runs on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. In China, it is priced from CNY7,499 which is about RM4,735.
Following the global launch, we can expect both the Honor Magic 5 and Magic Vs to make their way to Malaysia very soon.
