The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is officially launching this Thursday, 2nd February 2023. As one of the key markets, we expect pre-orders to start in Malaysia shortly after the global Unpacked event. Ahead of the launch, the purported pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S23 has surfaced online and it looks like it’s gonna cost significantly more than last year’s Galaxy S22 series.
In a screenshot shared by Marc Yeo on our RKMD group, the Galaxy S23 series is expected to start from RM4,199 for the base 6.1″ Galaxy S23 model with 256GB storage. That’s RM500 more than the same model last year and it’s on par with Apple’s 6.1″ iPhone 14 128GB. Going up a size is the 6.6″ Galaxy S23+ 256GB that’s priced at RM4,699, which is the same price as the iPhone 14 Plus 128GB.
For those looking for the best Galaxy device with an S Pen, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to be priced at RM5,699 for 256GB storage and RM6,199 for 512GB storage.
Looking at the global market situation, it is not a surprise that Samsung is hiking up its prices for its Galaxy S23 flagship series. If the above prices are true, this is also the first time Samsung is introducing a brand new Galaxy S series with no models priced under RM4,000.
As a comparison, here’s the pricing for last year’s Galaxy S22 series:
- Samsung Galaxy S22 5G 128GB – RM3,499
- Samsung Galaxy S22 5G 256GB – RM3,699
- Samsung Galaxy S22+ 5G 128GB – RM4,099
- Samsung Galaxy S22+ 5G 256GB – RM4,299
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 128GB – RM5,099
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 256GB – RM5,499
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 512GB – RM5,899
Details about the Galaxy S23 series hardware features and photos have already leaked extensively online. In terms of design. it looks pretty much the same as last year’s model. Under the hood, the Galaxy S23 series is expected to run a custom version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which should give it an added advantage over other Android flagship rivals.
However, the biggest upgrade will be in the camera department as the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP main camera, alongside a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two 10MP telephoto cameras. The screen sizes for the series remain unchanged with 6.1″ for the S23, 6.6″ for the S23+ and 6.8″ for the S23 Ultra. But this time, they have cranked up the screens to push a maximum brightness of 1,750nits for the entire range. Although the S23 Ultra’s battery remains unchanged at 5,000mAh, the smaller S23 and S23+ get an added capacity upgrade at 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh respectively (S22: 3,700mAh, S22+: 4,500mAh).
If you’re keen on getting a Galaxy S23 series device, Samsung is offering a RM200 eVoucher upon pre-order of the next Galaxy if you register your interest on their website.
