Sony announced a new model of headphones called the Float Run. Meant for the runner-lifestyle, these headphones have speakers positioned near your ears without touching the ear canal—“leaving the ear safely uncovered while still delivering a rich sound experience”.
“The Float Run headphones focus on the runner’s form, for a comfortable and stable experience without having to compromise sound quality,” wrote Sony in its press release.
The headphones are meant to fit a runner’s or athlete’s lifestyle, with a lightweight design of approximately 33 grams and a flexible neckband that Sony claims won’t slip when in motion. It also features a pressure-free design that sits off the ears.
If you were wondering if the Float Run headphones could be used with hats and sunglasses, Sony says they were tested with them and states that the stabilising neckband would keep them secure. It also has an IPX4 water-resistant rating, which means that users don’t have to worry about damage from sweat or from getting caught out in the rain.
As for sound quality, Sony says the earphones’ “16mm drivers and precise tuning combined with the off-ear style offers a more natural and wider sound”. And because they’re not in-ears and have no ability for noise cancelling, the headphones promises “ambient sound” and “an open-type design that eliminates echo of the sounds your body makes”.
Sony claims the Float Run has up to 10 hours of playtime when fully charged, and a charge of 10 minutes will give an hour of play. They conveniently charge using USB-C. Additionally, they include a carrying pouch to keep the supplied charging cable and headphones together.
The Sony Float Run headphones will be priced at RM599. They will be available in Malaysia from May 2023 onwards.
