Meta is trying really hard to push a metaverse feature through Instagram

Have you ever used your Meta bitmoji-like avatars on Instagram or Facebook? Me neither. But Meta is really trying its best to make us use its “metaverse” features by letting us add the avatars as an Instagram profile picture.

Instagram announced today that its users can now add their avatars “to the other side” of their profile pictures. People are then able to flip between the two pictures.

Currently, you’re able to make your own avatar if you haven’t through either Facebook or Instagram. On Instagram, “Edit Profile” and then press the avatar button next to your own profile picture. Press on your own profile picture if you’d rather use Facebook to find the same option.

Creating your own “Meta” avatar seems easy and they do give you a lot of options to customise. You’re also asked if you want to sync the same avatar across your shared Facebook and Instagram accounts.

However, I wasn’t able to switch out my regular profile picture with my avatar picture. It’s a possibility that Meta has yet to roll it out to everybody at this moment—but I guess I could at least use my avatar to make stickers to share in chats and Stories.

Besides it seemingly trying hard to make its metaverse a thing, Meta has also been making an effort to merge both Instagram and Facebook together. Recently, it lets you manage your settings on both platforms in one accounts centre.
