I’m on the lookout for new earbuds, but I also have a budget restriction I have to adhere to. If, however, I suddenly have EUR 695 (RM3,253) to spare, I’d heavily consider getting these insane Nova earrings that double as earbuds.
At first, glance, they might just look like a normal pair of pearl earrings—albeit a really beautiful pair of pearl earrings. However, you can also use these accessories as “ultra-discrete earbuds”.
At first, I imagined that you would be able to stick the earrings into your ears and have them blast music for you—with noise-canceling capabilities. But they’re just meant for you to play music and other audio near your ears, so basically they just act like small speakers. Still, Nova promises that the audio won’t be too obvious when you’re in public.
“Nova’s patented Directional Sound technology hidden in a pearl on a gold-plated clip makes audio invisible and allows you to stay connected and receptive to the world around you. Listen to music and make phone calls throughout the day while staying discreet,” wrote Nova.
If you’re not too bothered with your go-to earbuds to not have noise-canceling features, you might enjoy what Nova has to offer. For example, it could come in handy for athletes who want to remain aware of their surroundings.
The Nova H1 Audio Earrings come in both gold and silver, and you also have the option to buy them as regular stud earrings or clip-on earrings if you haven’t pierced your ears. Overall, they offer up to 3.5 hours of music playback, or 2.5 hours of talking time using the four built-in microphones.
Additionally, the earrings include a charging case—which looks like a fancy earring case—which provides up to three full charges, making for around 14 hours of listening in total. There’s also a built-in button on the earrings that lets you control audio playback and phone calls.
Nova also says that they are a “lightweight” 7.7g per earring. And while they seem light on paper, they’re a lot heavier than most earrings, so it might be uncomfortable if you’re not used to heavier pairs.
The Nova H1 Audio Gold Earrings are a whopping RM3K plus, and that doesn’t even include shipping. But as both an earring wearer and a user of earphones, I’m all the more intrigued by this new product and what it means for fashionable gadgets like these in the future. The earrings seem just like glorified tiny speakers, but I’m intrigued enough to want to try them out.
