Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din has stepped down as interim chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after just half a year of being appointed.

His relinquishment of the position was confirmed by MCMC’s corporate communications department to Malay Mail in an emailed statement today, without elaborating on the reason or the exact date.

“Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din has stepped down from his position as Interim Chairman of the MCMC.

“The appointment of MCMC chairman is under the purview of the Minister of Communications and Digital. Announcement regarding the matter will be communicated by the Minister in due course,” it said.

“With the strong senior leadership, MCMC continues to carry out its duties in regulating and promoting the telecommunications, broadcasting, postal and courier industries in particular balancing and protecting the overall interests of the consumers, industry and investors,” it added.

Mohamad Salim, 64, had previously served as a commission member of the MCMC from 2010-2014 and again on January 1 last year before being redesignated as its interim chairman on June 10, 2022.

He is also a member of the consultation and corruption prevention panel under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the current executive vice-chairman of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB).

Prior to joining MRCB, he was the founder and group managing director of Gapurna Sdn Bhd.

He also previously held non-executive chairmanships at Giant Malaysia and British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd, and chaired the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council. —  Malay Mail
