After teasing it for the whole of last month, Honor has finally launched their first device of the new year, the Honor X9a 5G. While perhaps not as eye-catching as the Magic Vs foldable, the Honor X9a still manages to have its own unique feature, which is a curved edge display that they claim is one of the toughest out there.
Honor X9a 5G Malaysia pricing and availability
The Honor X9a 5G will come in just one configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and is priced at RM1,499, making it the cheapest smartphone with a curved edge display according to Honor. You’ll be able to get it from 6 January onwards from their authorised retailers, the Honor eStore as well as the official Honor store on Shopee and Lazada.
Furthermore, Honor is also offering early birds free gifts worth up to RM418, which include their Honor Choice Earbuds X3 worth RM249 and free 180 days screen crack protection worth RM169.
Honor X9a 5G specs
The star of the show here with the Honor X9a is of course it’s 6.67-inch, FHD+ curved edge OLED display. Specs-wise, it is able to push out a 120Hz refresh rate, a 300Hz touch sampling rate and has full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, as well as 1920Hz PWM dimming and a peak brightness of 800nits. Being a curved edge display, Honor says that the Honor X9a will feature an AI anti-mistouch algorithm that will be able to adapt to your usage, preventing accidental touches of the edge with your palm, something users of smartphones with curved edges will be familiar with.
However, that display is also one of the toughest curved edge displays ever, with Honor using a 0.65mm ‘super reinforced’ glass for better drop resistance. Honor even compares it with the Kunlun Glass on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, another smartphone with a curved edge display that is able to withstand hard knocks and drops. The Honor X9a has apparently been tested in 33 different drop tests too, which include marble and concrete floors. Honor is so confident in the Honor X9a’s display that they even showed it off by using it to smash open walnuts.
Elsewhere, the Honor X9a’s midrange parts become a bit more obvious. The Honor X9a has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 system-on-chip under the hood, mated to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You can also ‘add’ up to 5GB of virtual RAM too if needed. It comes with Magic UI 6.1 out of the box too, based on Android 12.
In the camera department meanwhile, the Honor X9a features a main 64MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 5MP, f/2.2 ultrawide and depth camera as well as a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens all housed in a large ring-shaped camera bump. Upfront meanwhile is a 16MP, f/2.45 camera for all your selfie needs.
Other features of note include a 5,100mAh battery with 40W fast charging, an in-display fingerprint sensor and support for NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, 5G and WiFi 5. Unfortunately though, the Honor X9a does not have stereo speakers. It measures 7.9mm thick, weights 175g and comes in Titanium Silver, Emerald Green and Midnight Black colourways.
