Maxis now lets you enjoy 5G in 29 countries

Maxis is the first Malaysian telco to offer 5G roaming back in October 2021 with their roaming partner in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

Head of Maxis Consumer Arjun Varma said “We are pleased that our customers can enjoy the best 5G experience in even more countries now, which is timely with the expectation of an influx of travelers for the year-end holidays. Together with our roaming partners, we are committed to providing the best connectivity experience wherever our customers are. We also look forward to further expanding our services to more countries in the near future.”

Maxis added that it will extend its 5G international roaming footprint to more countries by the end of 2022.

Maxis Unlimited Roaming Data Pass starts from RM29

Maxis Data Roaming Rates for Singapore

Maxis currently offers several data roaming passes with 5G in supported countries. The one-day unlimited Data pass costs RM29 and there’s also the 7 Day ASEAN Unlimited Data Pass which costs RM49. If you’re travelling for an extended period of time to multiple countries, there’s the 30 Days World Unlimited Data Pass at RM99.

With the unlimited data pass, there’s a daily high-speed quota of 2GB and your speeds will be reduced to 1Mbps after hitting your daily limit. The FUP will refresh daily at 12am Malaysian time. Take note that in some countries, the daily pass may cost RM38/day and it comes with 500MB of high-speed quota.

The passes can be purchased from the Maxis app and then click on Maxis Roaming in the services tab. Alternatively, you can dial *100# on your phone, and then go to International Roaming, choose the country and select one of the available passes.

As we’ve highlighted previously, using voice calls on Maxis Postpaid while roaming can cost you a hefty fee. In a large number of countries, Maxis will automatically activate the RM15 unlimited voice call pass even if you make or receive a single call. The RM15 pass will also be activated if an incoming call is directed to voice mail, so it is best to turn off Voice Mail completely before travelling overseas.

You can check out the full data roaming details for each country on Maxis’ roaming page.
