Twitter bans sharing “someone else’s location”, which includes Elon Musk’s flight-tracking account

Twitter Safety announced that they have updated their Private Information policy “to prohibit sharing someone else’s live location in most cases”. This also means the suspension of the account @ElonJet, an account that tracked the trips taken by Elon Musk’s private plane.

“When someone shares an individual’s live location on Twitter, there is an increased risk of physical harm. Moving forward, we’ll remove Tweets that share this information, and accounts dedicated to sharing someone else’s live location will be suspended,” said Twitter Safety.

However, users can still share their own live location on the platform. Twitter also permits content that “shares location information related to a public engagement or event, such as a concert or political event”.

Previously, Elon Musk boasted that his “free speech” commitment after taking over Twitter “extends even to not banning the account” that follows his plane. He also called it a “direct personal safety risk”.

Jack Sweeney, the account creator of ElonJet, also had dozens of other accounts he operates suspended. Sweeney was suspended for violating Twitter’s rules against “platform manipulation and spam”. But Musk said that the ban may have been for something else.

According to Musk, a car carrying one of his children had been followed by a stalker thinking it was him. He is now taking legal action against Sweeney.

Besides Musk’s jet tracking account, others that tracked the jets of billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates have been suspended as well.
