Want that checkmark on your Twitter profile? Twitter Blue will now cost more for iOS users

Twitter has announced that they’re relaunching and revamping their controversial Twitter Blue subscription plan on Monday, and it’ll come with a price increase too—but only for those who subscribe to it via the iOS app.

While Twitter did not explain why users who subscribe to Twitter Blue via iOS, it’s likely due to how Apple charges a 30% fee on any purchases made on the app store as well as all in-app purchases too. As such, Twitter users who subscribe onto Twitter Blue via the web will only need to pay USD8 a month, while those who opt to subscribe to Twitter Blue via the iOS app will need to pay USD11 per month instead. While Twitter originally launched Twitter Blue in early November, they since took it down following a rise in fake accounts pretending to be others. There’s also no word yet on if it’ll be available in Malaysia.

According to Twitter, this new and improved Twitter Blue will come with a number of features such as the ability to edit tweets, 1080p video uploads, a reader mode and a blue checkmark but only after your account gets reviewed by the social media platform, likely as a means of preventing the rise of fake accounts impersonating others that happened the last time they launched Twitter Blue. Subscribers will also be able to change their handle, display name and profile photo, but will temporarily lose their blue checkmark until another review by Twitter.

Furthermore, Twitter will be replacing the ‘official’ label that they used to certify blue checkmark holders that didn’t get it via Twitter Blue with a gold checkmark for businesses, and a grey checkmark for government and multilateral accounts.
