Earlier this month, Xiaomi had to postpone their launch of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, as almost every company in China pushed back major events following the passing of former China president Jiang Zemin. They originally didn’t provide a new date, but the Chinese company has now confirmed that their flagships will be launched this Sunday, 11 December at 7pm.
In conjunction with their new launch date, they’ve also shown off brand new visuals showing off how the Xiaomi 13 will look like. It pretty much confirms the iPhone-esque design of their non-Pro model, complete with shiny flat edges and a square-shaped camera island. The front of the device also shows off a very narrow and uniform bezel around the edges, almost like the displays on an iPhone or the Nothing Phone (1).
The camera island also has lines on it splitting it down the middle, with a further split on the left half for the three cameras, complete with Leica branding. There’s also a textured surface on the back supposedly made of a ‘nano-skin’ material in a shade of Mountain Blue.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro meanwhile didn’t get shown off as much, but in their poster for the upcoming launch event, it does show off more of the smartphone. While it definitely still has the iPhone-inspired square camera bump, it now has a curved edge to it on the sides, while the top (and presumably the bottom) of the Xiaomi 13 Pro remain flat. It also comes in a more subtle green colourway, seemingly without the same textured surface as the Xiaomi 13 too.
While we will need to wait till the end of the week to know more about the new Xiaomi 13 series, there are some things that we do know already. For starters, the two devices are almost certainly coming with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip under the hood, along with ultra-thin bezels that are supposedly just 1.61mm thin. The camera setup reportedly features a Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, with both devices also getting a telephoto camera with a 75mm focal length. They’ll also be coming with the new Android 13-based MIUI 14 operating system out of the box.
