Following our recent post about a potential output cap for Gentari’s 350kW DC chargers at X Park Sunway Serene, the green energy company has confirmed that the output is currently limited to 175kW. Gentari says they will offer the full 350kW charging capacity soon after they have completed their tests next week.
As announced earlier, the 350kW DC fast chargers at X Park Sunway Serene are now open to the public and available for free until 15th December 2022. To ensure further technical compatibility and for data monitoring, Gentari says they are limiting the output to 175kW maximum whilst final tests and a software upgrade will be carried out.
Gentari aims to complete these tests and software upgrades by 15th December. After this date, the chargers will offer the full 350kw capacity and be priced at RM1.20 per kWh. Gentari added that these efforts are part of their primary commitment to their customers in making sure their charging network is robust and reliable.
With the current capacity cap, we only managed to get a maximum rate of 173kW on the Kia EV6 which is one of the 800V electrical architecture-based EVs that can take advantage of the higher charging output. From our recent test, we got from 20-80% charge in 17 minutes with a total of 47.9kWh electricity consumed. We can expect shorter charging times once the capacity cap is removed as the EV6 is should be capable of hitting a higher 225kW charging rate. According to Hyundai and Kia, their latest flagship EVs are able to get from 10-80% charge in just 18 minutes.
Gentari’s new EV charging hub at X Park Sunway Serene is one of the first in the country to obtain the Energy Commission’s Electric Vehicle Charging System (EVCS) licence. Besides meeting stringent EV charging safety standards, the licence allows Gentari to charge electric vehicle charging based on kWh instead of by parking time.
As mentioned earlier, 350kW DC charging for this site will cost RM1.20 per kWh while 180kW DC charging costs RM1.00 per kWh. The slower 22kW and 7kW AC charging options are priced at RM0.55 per kWh.
