Before the year is out, Mercedes-Benz is launching its EQE electric vehicle in Malaysia this month. This is their all-electric full-sized executive sedan which many consider the baby Mercedes-Benz EQS and it is different from the EQE SUV.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE Malaysia launch is scheduled to take place on the 13th of December 2022, which is right before the local launch of the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric. The brand has a registration of interest form on its website and registered users will be notified once the EV becomes available.
The EQE like the EQS is developed using the EV-dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) platform unlike its earlier introduced Mercedes EQA, EQB and EQC which are based on their petrol-powered models. This would provide a more efficient design with maximum cabin space as the car won’t need to make any unnecessary compromises to accommodate an internal combustion engine system.
As the model name suggests, the EQE is a step below the EQS and it features a traditional boot instead of a fastback rear door which also lifts up the rear glass. The modern interior is slightly smaller than the EQS due to a shorter wheelbase (3120mm vs 3210mm) but it is still longer than the standard-length W223 S-class which has a wheelbase of 3106mm. The dash also features their current MBUX Hyperscreen which has three displays covered by a single piece of glass.
When the Mercedes-Benz EQE made its debut last year, there was a single EQE 350 version which has a rear electric motor pushing 215kW (288hp) of power and 530Nm of torque. The 90.6kWh battery is slightly smaller than the EQS and it is rated to deliver up to 660km of driving range on a single charge using the WLTP-cycle.
The EQE supports 22kW AC charging which takes over 4 hours to fully charge. It also supports up to 170kW DC fast charging which is claimed to be able to push from 10-80% charge in about 33 minutes.
Depending on the market, there are also 4MATIC and AMG versions available for the EQE. The top-of-the-line AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ has twin motors that push an insane 460kW (617hp) of power and 950Nm of torque with a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.
So far no details on the local pricing but you can expect it to be significantly cheaper than the EQS 450+ which is currently going for RM698,888 without insurance.
December is a busy month for the EV scene in Malaysia. Besides the Mercedes-Benz EQE and Volvo C40 EV, the BYD Atto 3 is also launching in Malaysia very soon and it is expected to be priced under RM170,000.
