Oppo’s upcoming clamshell foldable set to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 globally

It’s almost a full year now since Oppo showed off to the world the Oppo Find N, their first ever foldable that surprised everyone by being much smaller than the others in the market at the time. With its Inno Day set to happen later this month, Oppo is widely expected to announce not one, but two new foldable smartphones as part of the Find N2 Series.

While there will be a regular Oppo Find N2 that’s more akin to the original Find N, there will apparenly also be the Find N2 Flip, a clamshell foldable similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. A number of leaks in the past few days have already shown what we can expect: a rumoured 6.8-inch main display that you can then fold down into a square-ish compact clamshell sporting a vertical 3.26-inch display that occupies the left half of the top cover.

It is said that everyone who has seen it loves it very much. Oppo will succeed this time, and this phone will be sold globally.

But perhaps the most intriguing rumour so far comes from serial leakster Ice Universe on Twitter, who claims that Oppo will be launching the Find N2 Flip globally. This would be a huge move that is aimed squarely at dethroning the Galaxy Z Flip 4; Samsung’s current and last generation flip phone have perhaps been their popular foldables yet, thanks to their more affordable price points. It also helped that rival foldable clamshells like the Motorola Razr and the Huawei P50 Pocket were either not released globally or, in the latter’s case, didn’t come with Google Mobile Services.

Incidentally, Oppo wouldn’t be the only ones trying to take on Samsung in the foldable scene. Just recently, Honor had launched the Magic Vs foldable smartphone in China, and have since confirmed that it will be going international with it too, likely as a challenger to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 instead.

As for the Oppo Find N2 Flip, the one thing that will probably make it stand out the most from the Galaxy Z Flip 4 beyond its larger cover display is the lack of a noticeable crease on the main display. When we checked out the Find N earlier this year, its standout feature was how flat the inner display was, especially when compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is also slated to come with a dual camera system, packing a main camera and an ultrawide camera using the Sony IMX766 and IMX355 sensors respectively.

Of course, all this remains speculation for now, as we’ll need to wait for Oppo to fully reveal the Find N2 and Find N2 Flip to know more about their next generation of foldables. It’ll likely happen at this year’s Oppo Inno Day event, though the company has yet to confirm when that will be.
