Ahead of commercial 5G availability, U Mobile has launched its unbeatable 5G-ready postpaid plans which offers loads of high-speed data with no speed cap. U Mobile customers on U Postpaid 38 (30GB), U Postpaid 68 (100GB) and U Postpaid 98 (1000GB) can start enjoying 5G access on a compatible 5G smartphone.
U Mobile has also not forgotten its customers on prepaid—it has just introduced new Prepaid U35 and U40 plans that provide uncapped 5G speeds on weekends (from midnight on Saturday to 11:59pm on Sunday) at no extra cost.
As for U25 subscribers, they are able to experience 5G for free without speedcap with 30 hours of bundled 5G speed booster per month. The Unlimited 5G Weekends and Daily Speed Booster can both be activated via the MyUMobile app.
Use a 5G-capable smartphone
5G is actually more accessible than you think as it isn’t just limited to expensive flagship devices. Smartphone manufacturers are already offering 5G-enabled device at various price points including mid-range and entry-level segments priced under RM1,000.
There are already a significant number of Android smartphones can already connect to 5G. If you don’t have a 5G device, you could get one on contract or by installments when you sign up for U Postpaid 98 with U Paylater or U SaveMore options. iPhone users can’t connect to 5G at the moment but it will be supported on U Mobile very soon.
Access to the national 5G network
U Mobile’s 5G access is made possible via Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). Through the national 5G network, Malaysians can enjoy equal 5G access nationwide via participating telcos. According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s JENDELA Q3 2022 report, the 5G network currently covers 33% of populated areas with a total of 1,915 sites covering the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor, Perak, Kelantan, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. You can check out the coverage areas here.
DNB is currently deploying the 5G network with an aggressive timeline as it aims to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by the end of 2024.
What can 5G deliver?
Higher data speeds is just a small part of what 5G can deliver for consumers. Besides getting gigabit speeds, 5G also offers lower latency for lag-free gaming, immersive VR/AR experiences and ultra HD video streaming. 5G also offers a much higher capacity to support even more connected devices and that means less congestion and reliable internet all the time. This is just a beginning as 5G will unlock more possibilities and upcoming killer applications that are not possible with current 4G technology.
U Mobile has 92.7% 4G coverage nationwide and it is still growing
While 5G is being rolled out to every corner of the country, 4G remains the bedrock for mobile connectivity for Malaysians. U Mobile customers can still enjoy high-speeds on its 4G LTE network which covers 92.7% of the population. The network is still growing as U Mobile continues to deploy new sites and upgrade existing infrastructure to fulfill connectivity targets under the JENDELA initiative.
