U Mobile now offers unlimited 5G on prepaid but only for weekends

Three weeks after turning on 5G, U Mobile has refreshed its 5G-ready prepaid plans which now come with unlimited 5G data which includes the new Prepaid U40 option. Earlier this month, U Mobile enabled 5G for its U25 and U35 prepaid customers but they can only enjoy 5G speeds for one hour daily by activating a 5G speed booster. This is probably the worst way to enjoy 5G since there are other prepaid options that provide all-day unlimited 5G.

U Mobile Prepaid U40

With new U Mobile U40 plan costs RM40/month which is merely RM5 more than the current U35 plan. It still offers “unlimited” 4G data capped at 6Mbps and unlimited calls but the biggest difference is “unlimited” hotspot instead of the 3GB quota on the U35 plan.

According to the FAQ, both U35 and U40 prepaid plans still come with a 100GB Fair Usage Policy (FUP) and your speed will be reduced to 512kbps until the plan renews. For the U40’s hotspot data, you can enjoy high-speed data for the first 3GB and the subsequent usage will be speed capped at 6Mbps. It also added that the 100GB FUP is applicable to both “unlimited” hotspot and mobile usage collectively.

Activating Unlimited 5G for the weekend

If you’re on the U35 and U40 prepaid plan, U Mobile is now offering unlimited 5G data for the weekend from midnight on Saturday until 11:59pm on Sunday. Customers will be required to redeem the weekend 5G offer via the MyUMobile app every weekend.

Unfortunately, U25 users are still stuck with the speed booster option where they can only redeem 1 hour of 5G speeds per day for 30 days in a month. Do note that users who have depleted their FUP will not be able to enjoy the full 5G speeds. The FAQ stated that your speed will remain at 512kbps until you purchase speed boosters or repurchase the U25, U35 and U40 plans.

For more info, you can check out U Mobile’s 5G prepaid page.
