If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G on an Unifi Mobile 5G-enabled plan, you can now access the 5G network after updating the phone’s software. Samsung has recently pushed out its One UI 5 update with Android 13 for the Galaxy S21 series and it also enables 5G connectivity on Unifi Mobile.
To update your Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, just go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. The latest One UI 5 update with Android 13 is about 2.1GB in size and it carries the 1st October 2022 security update. The same One UI 5 update was also pushed to the Galaxy S22 series two weeks ago.
After installing the update, you should be able to connect to 5G via Unifi Mobile provided that your plan is 5G enabled and you’re residing within Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G network. Do check under Connections > Mobile Networks, that the Network mode is set to “5G/LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)”. Prior to this, Unifi Mobile 5G only supports a handful of Samsung models when it switched on 5G for consumers on 31st October.
As mentioned earlier, several devices especially from Samsung and Apple would require a software update to enable 5G on a specific telco. The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G was able to connect to 5G on Yes 5G in March when Samsung pushed its One UI 4.1 update but not for other telcos despite tapping on the same national 5G network. This is due to the arrangements between the telco and the device manufacturer as software updates may be required to enable 5G. If you’re planning to use 5G with your telco plan, it is best to check with them if your device is truly supported.
