Get that blue check on Twitter for RM34.90 a month as Twitter Blue is coming to Malaysia

Twitter has been in a bit of a situation lately, as following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform, the Tesla CEO has begun implementing a host of weird decisions, from firing a chunk of its staff and then suspending accounts of users mocking him on the bird site. None of them though has been as controversial as giving Twitter Blue users a blue check mark on their accounts, making them seem as though they’re verified when they’re actually just Blue subscribers. And, with this change, it seems like it’ll be coming to Malaysia too.

Twitter Blue was first launched back in June of last year, and was basically their paid subscription service that gave users a couple of bonus features, such as allowing you to edit tweets that you’ve already posted, a bookmark folder, a reader mode and some additional profile customisation tools. However, with Musk at the helm, he has since changed up Twitter Blue quite a bit by giving subscribers the extra blue check too. It’s been pretty contentious as it’s led to plenty of big names such as Nintendo being impersonated easily for a small fee, and other platforms such as Tumblr has started to poke fun at it too.

That being said, Twitter Blue had only been available for iOS users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK since its launch. With this blue check change, Twitter Blue will also come with an increased price—it used to be just USD2.99 but Twitter has now raised its monthly fee to USD7.99 per month. But, it seems that Malaysians wanting to get Twitter Blue—perhaps for that blue check on their profile—will also be able to do so very soon.

As spotted by Xavier Naxa on Twitter, on the listing for Twitter on the app store, the platform has listed out the price of Twitter Blue for Malaysians at RM22.90 per month. Since then, Twitter has updated its store listing to show a Twitter Blue (Obsolete) for that price and a new Twitter Blue for RM34.90, which matches up with how Twitter Blue’s prices has gone up. However, it seems like you can’t actually get it just yet; we tried going to our Profile page on Twitter where you would be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue, but no such option is available yet. Nevertheless, seeing as Twitter has already listed out the price we’d have to pay for Twitter Blue, it’s likely just a matter of time before Malaysians will be able to subscribe to it.
