Asus ROG Phone 6D series Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Earlier this year, Asus dropped the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro onto our shores. These flagship gaming smartphones packed everything a mobile gamer wanted, such as the best silicon, RGB lighting and shoulder buttons; having reviewed one, we were quite impressed by it too. Asus is now doubling down on the gaming smartphone scene with their latest releases, the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.

Asus ROG Phone 6D series Malaysia pricing and availability

The ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D will come in just one configuration each, and both will be made available for purchase from 9th November onwards from their official store on Shopee and Lazada as well as authorised retailers nationwide. Here’s how much they;’

  • ROG Phone 6D, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM3,499
  • ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM4,999

As a comparison, the original ROG Phone 6 series started at a slightly higher RM3,599 for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with the model packing 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage priced at RM4,399. The ROG Phone 6 Pro meanwhile packed 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage at RM4,999, the same price as the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate even though it packs more memory. However, it’s perhaps worth mentioning that the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate will come with the Asus ROG AeroActive Cooler 6, which normally goes for RM349.

If you’re interested in the ROG Phone 6D, you can also head over to your nearest Asus authorised retailer to get a RM300 rebate on the ROG Phone 6D by simply trading in your old device. This campaign will last from the 9th till the end of November 2022.

ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate specs

Both the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate are actually very similar to their non-D counterparts. For starters, you’re getting the same 6.78-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display that pushes a 165Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time, complete with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass over it for scratch resistance. The pair also come with an IPX4 rating for splash resistance, feature front-facing stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint reader and touch sensors where the shoulder buttons would be when gaming.

Where they do differ from Asus’ regular gaming smartphones though is with what’s under the hood. The ‘D’ in their name likely stands for Dimensity, as the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate swap out the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on their regular counterparts with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ system-on-chip, mated to up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of storage. This means that the GPU is also swapped out from Qualcomm’s Adreno 730 to the Mali-G710 too. Both devices will come with Android 12 out of the box too.

The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate also has yet another trick up its sleeve. While the ROG Phone 6D has an Aura RGB lighting panel on the back featuring the ROG logo, the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate has a second screen there altogether. This ‘matrix colour display’ can be set to showcase a bunch of animations, and you can even customise your own on it. That’s not all though, as next to it is the AeroActive Portal. It’s basically a small flap that opens up once you connect the bundled AeroActive Cooler onto it, allowing the device to dissipate more heat and boost thermal efficiency by up to 20%.

Other than that though, it’s mostly again the same hardware as what you’ll find in the ROG Phone 6 series. This means a triple rear camera setup with a main 50MP, f/1.9 camera using the Sony IMX766 sensor flanked by a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro lens, along with a 12MP front facing camera for selfies. There’s also a 3.5mma audio jack, support for 5G, NFC, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, while you can also use gyroscoping aiming in games too. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a massive 6,000mAh battery with 65W charging.
