Huawei is launching the Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro flagship smartphones in Malaysia next week. It has been two years since the last Huawei Mate series smartphone was introduced and the new model now boasts a rather interesting camera setup despite not carrying the Leica badge.
The Huawei Mate 50 series Malaysian launch is happening at 4:45pm on Thursday, 3rd November 2022. The event will be streamed live on their official Facebook page and we reckon that pre-orders for the device will be available shortly after the event on the official online store as well as Lazada and Shopee.
At the moment, Huawei is allowing interested buyers to book the devices by placing a RM1 deposit. Participants are also able to stand a chance to win daily and weekly lucky draw prizes including the Huawei Mate 50 device itself.
Huawei Mate 50 Specs
The base Huawei Mate 50 model features a 6.7″ 90Hz OLED display which pushes a resolution of 2700×1224 pixels. Under the hood, it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G platform with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage.
In the camera department, the rear gets a triple-camera setup which consists of a 50MP ultra aperture camera which allows you to change the aperture between f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom. Meanwhile, the front gets a single 13MP ultra-wide-angle selfie shooter.
Despite being the non-Pro model, the Mate 50 still gets stereo speakers and IP68-rated dust and water resistance. Powering the device is a 4,460mAh battery which supports 66W fast charging via USB-C and 50W fast wireless charging. In terms of colours, it is available in either Black and Silver. In China, the Huawei Mate 50 256GB is priced at CNY 5,499 which is about RM3,584.
Huawei Mate 50 Pro Specs
Moving up a notch is the Huawei Mate 50 Pro which gets a slightly larger 6.74″ OLED display which pushes a 120Hz refresh rate and 2616×1212 pixels resolution. It also runs on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip with 4G support along with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. While it also gets the typical Black and Silver colour options, the Mate 50 Pro is offered with a higher 512GB storage version that gets an orange vegan leather back. On top of that, only the 512GB model gets a stronger Kunlun Glass which claims to be more drop resistant than other smartphone glass in the market.
The Pro model also gets a triple-camera setup that features the same 50MP main camera with a variable aperture lens (f1.4-f/4.0). But it gets a higher resolution 64MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom while retaining a similar 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. The front camera is also a 13MP selfie shooter but it gets an additional 3D Dept sensing camera.
The Mate 50 Pro also gets stereo speakers and IP68-rated dust and water resistance. Powering the device is a slightly bigger 4,700mAh battery which also supports 66W fast charging via USB-C and 50W fast wireless charging. In its home market in China, the Mate 50 Pro 256GB is going for CNY 6,799 (about RM4,420) while the 512GB version is priced at CNY 7,799 (about RM5,070).
