Besides enhancing its Yes 5G Databack programme with Shopee, YTL Communications is offering one month of its Yes Infinite Postpaid plan for free on its official store on Shopee. If you haven’t experienced 5G in Malaysia, this is an opportunity to try Yes 5G with unlimited data on both 4G and 5G networks.
If you’re interested, just purchase the Yes Infinite Discover Postpaid Plan on Shopee using the RM58 off voucher. Shipping is free within West Malaysia and the delivery is estimated to take about 5-7 days.
The Infinite Discover Plan priced at RM58/month appears to be identical to its Yes Infinite Basic Plan. The Infinite Postpaid plans offer unlimited 4G and 5G data with no Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Also included is unlimited calls to all networks but the Basic Plan only comes with 10GB of hotspot quota. According to the description, you must activate the SIM card within 30 days from the date you receive the SIM Pack.
During the first month trial period, you can’t use it for roaming, IDD, off-net SMS (SMS to other networks) and non-toll free numbers as the trial plan has zero credit limit. If you’re happy with the plan, you can continue by paying RM58/month after the trial period. Otherwise, you’ll have to terminate the plan by contacting Yes as this is a postpaid plan. According to the FAQ, there’s no contract and there’s no deposit required.
Before subscribing, you must ensure that you have a 5G-compatible phone by checking Yes 5G’s supported devices list. In case you’re wondering, Yes 5G doesn’t support 5G on the iPhone.
Yes 5G uses Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) 5G network which currently claims to cover over 30% of populated areas in Malaysia which include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, as well as selected areas in Penang, Johor, Kelantan and Perak. YTL Communications CEO Wing K Lee shared recently that the 5G network covers 90% of populated areas in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. DNB aims to achieve 40% 5G population coverage by the end of 2022 and to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by the end of 2024.
In terms of download speed, DNB promises at least 100Mbps at the weakest point of coverage. With optimal conditions, you might be able to hit over 1Gbps for downloads at selected locations. According to Opensignal, Kuala Lumpur has the second fastest 5G download speeds in Asia Pacific with an average download speed of 376.6Mbps. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as 5G adoption in Malaysia remains low with no major telco using the network.
At the moment, YTL Communications remain the first and only telco to offer 5G services. Although a total of four telcos have signed share subscription agreements to invest in DNB, the telcos are still required to sign Access Agreements in order to provide commercial 5G services.
