Firefly responded to viral video of their crew being on TikTok while preparing for take off

Firefly had to put out an official statement online regarding a recent viral video online that has now been removed. The airline said that they have acknowledged that their crew was caught filming for TikTok while performing a safety briefing during take-off.

“We do not condone such behaviour and firm action will be taken immediately. We assure you that this incident will be investigated thoroughly and all steps will be taken to avoid such incident in the future,” wrote Firefly on Instagram.

Firefly was referring to a video on Instagram posted by actor and host Karl Shafek, who also called out the crew. In his video, a stewardess was seen holding a TikTok livestream while on duty.

“I have no idea that cabin crews nowadays are allowed to go live on TikTok while preparing to take off. No matter how competent you are as a crew, you should be focused on people’s safety… Did this stewardess even attend any training? What is this @fireflyairlines? Is this even allowed now?” wrote Karl Shafek on his Instagram post.

The Instagram post has since been removed, but Gempak reached out to the actor who said that the safety of the passengers should be prioritised. It was also concerning because mobile phones are advised to be switched off during take off anyway.

“(The attendant) was informing the passengers about the flight safety, yet had time to respond to her followers’ comments. Clearly her mind wasn’t on the task at hand,” said Karl Shafek.

We don’t know why the Instagram post by the actor was removed. But Firefly stated that they are “currently investigating the issue with the employee”.

“We do not condone such behaviour and firm action has been taken. Once again, we would like to thank everyone for their concern, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard,” said Firefly.
